The One Habit Of All Successful People

July 17, 2008 by admin · 13 Comments

There will always be things to learn. Your Ego might kicks in now and said that you know a lot of things but do you really know how much you don’t know?

Who knows, right.

That’s why successful people keep on learning – especially those in business. No matter how many books you have read, seminars you have attended or courses you have taken, they can never teach you everything. But collectively, they bear an impact.

My goal at the end of this article is to get you start learning something, especially if you’re being lazy lying on your comfortable bed.

If you have finished reading a book on personal transformation, go back and read it again. You’d be surprised what new information that you can pick up the second time around. This is because when you go through the book the second time, you have already changed. You have absorbed something the first time, so now, going through it the second time, you are learning from a different point of view.

For instance, just read the book, Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. At first, you will think you know the content of it after reading the first time but if you read it again, you’ll discover a lot new understandings and concept.

(The Power of Now is a book about achieving spirituality success and happiness.)

Or why some self help gurus read 10 times of Think And Grow Rich – over and over again.

The learning process doesn’t just occur when you’re consciously in the learning mode (like picking up a book to read or attending a seminar). You can pick up a lesson anywhere, anytime.

That’s call, learning about life.

You saw someone behaving her child successfully and you may think, “Hey, that’s an ingenious way to make a child quiet.” Then you bring that home to try it on your kids.

And one more thing– one is never too old to learn.

There’s a saying, you can teach an old dog new tricks. I mean, there is no reason why a 70 year old grandfather can’t discover the joys of playing X-box 360 video game with his grandchildren or a 30-something man can’t learn to ride a bike for the first time.

Same goes with the young ones.

In my Aikido class, there’s a 12-year old kid training with us. I’m sure he can’t fight an adult, but he’s learning – preparing himself to be an expert when his age is ready.

What is more important is that desire to learn. It must be there first so that you can prepare within yourself the correct environment to receive knowledge.

Put it this way, if someone doesn’t want to learn to cook properly, nothing is going to make him go to cooking class or pick up a recipe book – even if all of those are given for free.

You’ve read this far but I’m not convince that I’ve done my part to create the awareness that you need to take up the habit of all successful people – to keep on learning every day.

Here’s the thing– I don’t have anything to lose. The ball’s on your court. The stronger your desire to learn, the richer you’ll become. I’m not going to spend any more time convincing you because it’ll just make today’s blog post boring.

Just remember this… without your desire to learn every day, not only that you won’t get richer but you’ll also be missing out a lot of joy in life.

Feel a little bit more pressure now? Good.

Another Factor of “Law Of Attraction”

July 14, 2008 by admin · 7 Comments

Other than “Law Of Attraction”, have you heard about ‘Vibrations’? So what exactly are vibrations or what does it has to do with you attaining success?

The simplest explanation would be vibrations are the ‘frequency’ that only the subconscious mind recognizes. The reason we can’t see these vibrations is because they play at the subconscious level– not at the level that we can see or hear. We recognize them instinctively, rather than in the literal universal way of seeing.

The Law of Attraction states that all of us are like satellite towers with the ability to send out signals to the universe. These signals are our vibrations. The ’stronger’ we vibrate; the more likely we are able to attract the things we want into our lives. The ’stronger’ means that you’re vibrating at a higher level so that it’s at the same level of your goal.

To ensure that our vibrations are strong enough, we must first ensure that we are not vibrating from an unresourceful ‘frequency’.

I’ll give an analogy to explain…

Take the contestants in a beauty pageant, for example. Obviously each one of these beauties would have to be the best of the best to be able to stand up on that stage.

So how do the judges choose the one whom they will crown the winner?

Most of the time, we will hear that poise and confidence are part of the criteria. And they are right.

The contestant who has the poise and confidence to deserve the crown knows that there is only one unique she in this world. There is no one else like her. The other contestants are beautiful, but they can never be beautiful the way she is beautiful, they can never talk the way she talks or walk the catwalk the way she walks.

They may be better than her, or not, but that doesn’t matter. By recognizing that she is unique in her own way, by being comfortable with who she is, she is no longer vibrating in an unresourceful state. She knows that she is special.

Now, compare that to a contestant who feels like she has to compete with everyone else. This is being in an unresourceful state because she has a need. By needing to compete, she feels like she is inferior. With that in mind, that’s the kind of vibration that she is sending out to the universe.

See the difference?

Now that we know a little bit about the vibrations that we send out, how do we ensure that we are sending the right one out?

The first step is to be aware of it. What are you thinking and feeling right now?

How do you normally talk in your every day communication?

What kind of words do you use?

If you are always saying that you are perpetually up to your eyeballs in debt, then my friend, that’s what you will be. But if you tell yourself that you will get out of your state of indebtedness, then your subconscious mind will find opportunities for you.

There is no hocus pocus here. Those opportunities were always there– right in front of you. But because you keep telling yourself that you are in debt, your subconscious mind does not see a way out. Once you start telling yourself that you will get out of debt, that’s when your subconscious mind starts to recognize the many ways for you to do that.

For instance, if you notice carefully– those who buy more personal improvement programs (books, CDs, etc) are those who ARE already successful. Those who complain that $19.95 is a lot of money for a book even if they know it’s worthwhile are normally those living in debts.

Do you see where I’m getting? Successful people are successful because they think differently when they’re investing in themselves. You see, they understand this very well– just one new discovery that they can uncover from their investments would give them more wealth in return. It’s really difficult not to learn anything new, you know. That is why they continue to be more successful every time– they’re also vibrating on a different level.

And what about your feelings when it comes to vibrating at the right frequency?

They play a part in how strong the vibrations that you are sending out is. If you don’t feel like your deserve something, like getting out of debt, then no matter how many times you tell yourself you will get out of debt, it will not matter. You don’t believe it, why should your subconscious mind believe it?

You have already decided in your subconscious mind that you don’t deserve to be out of debt.

Therefore, before sending out your signal to the greater universe, make sure that your own internal universe is properly aligned in terms of your feelings, actions and what you say.

It’s impossible for me to explain everything about “Law of Vibration” in a single article but I hope you get the ‘meat’ out of it and will continue to seek more knowledge on your own.

The Thing About Goals…

July 11, 2008 by admin · 5 Comments

Ask a kid, what he wants to be when he grows up– you will probably get answers like a fireman, doctor or police officer.

Ask the kid why and he may tell you he wants to be a hero, helping people or somewhere along that line.

Ask the kid does he know what he has to do to become a fireman, doctor, or police officer and most likely, you will be met with silence accompanied by a blank stare.

That’s understandable. They’re kids. They don’t think too much but they know what they want to be.

Change the situation to an adult — what do you get? You’d be surprised how many people will give you the same reaction that a kid does but the different is, they’ll will give you that on the first question.

This is because most adults don’t really know what they want in life– the goal they want to achieve. Some call it ambition, aspiration or a purpose.

Let me think of a good analogy for a goal – it’s like a compass in your live, showing you the direction that you want to head. Without it, you are just wandering around aimlessly.

No wonder so many people feel like their lives lack meaning. In truth, they lack a real goal.

Now, let’s be honest- the word goal might turn you off because it sounds like a lot of work. So think of a goal as a desire instead.

A goal doesn’t have to be a big thing, although ideally, we should have that all major goal to reach for.

I’m not talking about a goal like buying a castle to live in. Something as simple as making sure you get to watch the final season finale of your favorite TV show tomorrow night IS A FORM OF A GOAL. Or being able to take your kids to Disneyland.

See, goals are easy. We basically know what we want. It’s how we can achieve them– that is the hard part.

It’s like taking a trip.

Let’s say you are in Chicago and you want to take a trip to Las Vegas for a holiday. Until you start to plan how you are going to get there, Las Vegas will just be a blurry vision.

Only after you have ironed out the traveling details, then your vacation to Vegas can be a reality. Otherwise, it’ll remain as a hope.

If you have a problem to set your goal, then just think what your desire is today, next week, next month, next year and so on. The pleasure that you want to experience.

Once you have identified a goal, work it out backwards and plan your way to achieve them. Working backwards means you look at what it will take to achieve that goal then work out how to implement those steps.

Suppose you want to be promoted to the next level in your job. What can you do?

Perhaps you can take up more projects to show your commitment. Maybe you don’t have the qualifications for the job, so you take up some night classes to get them.

At this point, you have to bear in mind that while it is good to dream big, goals should not be set unrealistically. If you want to be promoted within the next 6 months but it will take you at least 2 years to get the necessary qualification that is not being realistic. I don’t like to preach ‘thinking big’ if it’s going to lead to disappointment– know what I mean?

But let’s say you want to buy a dream house in two years time and you start saving now, will it be enough for you to afford it? If not, then what can you do to get the additional funds? You know best.

All of these are probably not new to you at all – more like a refreshment.

But if I got your attention this far, then you’re prepared for the next ’secret’.

Setting goals are not much different than believing what you’re going to get.

The secret to achieving big goals is to start achieving small goals first because your mind needs to get use to the fact that your goals can be achieved. Secondly, the role of making decisions plays a huge role in determining your success and the only way to get good at it is to practice often until you master it.

What I’m trying to say is this – you’re ALREADY accomplishing many goals every day or week. You’re just unaware of that and it’s time for you to acknowledge your own success to build the momentum and confident.

Without goals, you will have no compass. Some people may be able to live with that. But they are missing out on that all important substance of living that gives meaning and purpose to life!

So, do you want to be on a definite course towards something or do you want to drive around hoping to get somewhere? Obviously, we both know the answer.

Are You Lying To Yourself For The Sake Of Others?

July 9, 2008 by admin · 10 Comments

“Why can’t you be more like… “

You have probably heard of this line at one time or another in your lives– young or adult. Your parents pushed you to be more like the person whom they deem the model of what you should be like? Or maybe it was your spouse.

You know– your cousin who has a PhD, your brother is a fortune 500 company’s vice president, your neighbour just bought a flashy new car and so on– their successes being constantly drummed into your head like a bulldozer. And all of these are pushing you to be like them in one way or the other.

So you go into stock trading when your real talent lies in photography. You start on a path not necessarily doing what you love, but doing what you “should” be doing because, it fits the model, the storyboard that has been drawn for you since you were young.

You basically live your life becoming someone you are not, doing something you hate, simply because it pays the bill or everyone expects it – mainly because you BELIEVE that is the right path.

Get this – “EVERYONE” is irrelevant and your belief system could be wrong in the first place.

End of the day, you are the one who will be doing all those things, whether you like it or not. Everyone will never know what it’s like and they’re ‘free’ to give their suggestions. There’s saying, “the most expensive advice is a free advice”.

Maybe it’s time for you to step back and take stock if this is what you want to do for the rest of your life?

A lot of us spend our time living up to someone else’s ideals, whether it is our parents, friends or society in general. It’s not their fault, whether it’s self preservation, or just wanting the best for you.

This has led to people setting themselves up for failure because, at the back of their minds, they are not happy with what they are doing, they feel the pressure to achieve that goal when they would rather do something else, or simply they don’t have the ability to do it!

I can understand if you say this to me:

“Well Patric, it’s kinda too late to change for me. I might not live the life that I want, but THIS IS IT. It’s not possible for me to quit my job or start doing the things I want.”

And I’ll agree with you 100%. Who am I to kid, saying that everything can be changed overnight. That’s absurd.

But realistically, you can find time to do what you want to do right?

If you’re a lawyer, I’m sure you can’t quit being one now and turned to become a fireman just to follow your dream.

Think carefully- why you want to become a fireman when you were young? Is it because you want to be a hero? If that’s the case, I’m sure there are many other ways how you can become a hero. Don’t give me the crap saying that you can’t, because deep in your heart, you know you can- the question is, whether you want or not, or willing to do it.

As humans, we constantly act according to what we imagine to be true about ourselves. So if something that we deem to be true is making us unhappy, maybe we should be evaluating it to see if it has substance.

So your parents tell you that the only way to make money and have a comfortable life is to go to university, get a degree and set your sights on a corporate job. Is that true? Look at your life right now and you’ll know the truth. I’m not surprise it turns out to be the truth FOR YOU but unfortunately, that doesn’t happen to most people.

For instance, history has shown us that people can be successful without ever going to a university. Heck, it’s common to see the A students working for the C students when they all are grown up. Don’t get me wrong- I’m not saying schools are bad- I’m saying that they don’t guarantee you anything, especially good fortune.

At the same time, a “comfortable” life is very subjective. If their definition is a 5-figure monthly income, then yes, the easiest place to get that would be in the corporate world. But are there other options that will give you the same results that you have not explored yet? Who knows– maybe your deep desire of owning and running a hairdressing business can make twice that amount.

So the next time someone asks you why can’t be like so and so, hold your head up high and be glad that you’re not. Maybe, you can even answer, “Yes, I am not” and smile.
