There will always be things to learn. Your Ego might kicks in now and said that you know a lot of things but do you really know how much you don’t know?

Who knows, right.

That’s why successful people keep on learning – especially those in business. No matter how many books you have read, seminars you have attended or courses you have taken, they can never teach you everything. But collectively, they bear an impact.

My goal at the end of this article is to get you start learning something, especially if you’re being lazy lying on your comfortable bed.

If you have finished reading a book on personal transformation, go back and read it again. You’d be surprised what new information that you can pick up the second time around. This is because when you go through the book the second time, you have already changed. You have absorbed something the first time, so now, going through it the second time, you are learning from a different point of view.

For instance, just read the book, Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. At first, you will think you know the content of it after reading the first time but if you read it again, you’ll discover a lot new understandings and concept.

(The Power of Now is a book about achieving spirituality success and happiness.)

Or why some self help gurus read 10 times of Think And Grow Rich – over and over again.

The learning process doesn’t just occur when you’re consciously in the learning mode (like picking up a book to read or attending a seminar). You can pick up a lesson anywhere, anytime.

That’s call, learning about life.

You saw someone behaving her child successfully and you may think, “Hey, that’s an ingenious way to make a child quiet.” Then you bring that home to try it on your kids.

And one more thing– one is never too old to learn.

There’s a saying, you can teach an old dog new tricks. I mean, there is no reason why a 70 year old grandfather can’t discover the joys of playing X-box 360 video game with his grandchildren or a 30-something man can’t learn to ride a bike for the first time.

Same goes with the young ones.

In my Aikido class, there’s a 12-year old kid training with us. I’m sure he can’t fight an adult, but he’s learning – preparing himself to be an expert when his age is ready.

What is more important is that desire to learn. It must be there first so that you can prepare within yourself the correct environment to receive knowledge.

Put it this way, if someone doesn’t want to learn to cook properly, nothing is going to make him go to cooking class or pick up a recipe book – even if all of those are given for free.

You’ve read this far but I’m not convince that I’ve done my part to create the awareness that you need to take up the habit of all successful people – to keep on learning every day.

Here’s the thing– I don’t have anything to lose. The ball’s on your court. The stronger your desire to learn, the richer you’ll become. I’m not going to spend any more time convincing you because it’ll just make today’s blog post boring.

Just remember this… without your desire to learn every day, not only that you won’t get richer but you’ll also be missing out a lot of joy in life.

Feel a little bit more pressure now? Good.

Patric: Great insight about being a changed person after reading a book, preparing and enabling you to see more the next time through.

I have experienced that many times but had not considered that I was changeed by the experience.
I believe that as a result of being conscious of this, I will change and improve faster than I have before.

    Thank You,
    Michael Shelley

    PS:
I do get letters from you so I presume the one offered above and to the right is the same one.

Learning new things keeps life more interesting, even if it\\\’s how to plant your favorite rose bush, or how to catch more fish than your brother-law.

Learning new things to enrich your life is without a doubt, something that all successful people do on a regular basis.

You know, Earl Nightengale said that if you read material related to your industry – an hour a day, in 5 years you will be an expert in your field.

Of course, the other secret is to actually apply what you\\\’ve learned ;-)

Patrick: I live in Utah,USA and I read your e-mail regularly. There is much truth in you expressing that growth WILL evolve as we choose in to be learning new concepts. I graduated from 3 different universities. The bottom line to my academic journey is based on the truth that capping my knowledge pursuits will inevitably result in intellectual disintegration. I use Microsoft PowerPoint to create a LIFEPLAN GAMEPLAN. My Life is split into 4 quadrants; Physical,Spiritual,Intellectual,Financial. From there I chose to create objectives and goals to keep myself on task to learn how to create a better Life via this 4 Quadrant model. The bottom line is CONTINUAL SELF EDUCATION is key.

    Hi Patric,

There’s a saying… The more you know, the more you know what you don’t know.

People who are keen in learning will also know that they don’t know enough.

Only those who don’t know thought they’ve known a lot. And these are the one who wouldn’t go far in their life.

    Nice to see you again.

    Hi Patrick,
I want to thank you immensely for your time. I get really inspired by your write ups. Personally I believe that perseverance is key!
Most times what we want in life does\\\’nt just come rosy, but perseveance is key.

I have a technical background but my first job was in a bank. I accepted it for a start, but I peersevered until I got redeployed to the ICT group of the same bank.

There will be no end to the volumes I\\\’ll write if I decide to tell you about all the obstacles that came my way while I was pursuing the redeployment.

But I\\\’m happy to let you know that I\\\’m more fullfilled now!

    Hey Pat,
Wat u said in the blog is very much true….Learning is the beginig of everything we do and excel in life. When we are born we learn how to talk, walk, run, do differnt things & thus reached and achieved whatever we hav in our loives.
So if we want to conquer new heights, reach out farther, we must equip ourselves with new skills and must also update ourselves with latest knowledge….. al these need learning new things.
But most of the time you can say that we are just updating ourselves like we update our computer with chaniging times…. we dont use windows 98 any more but the updated version XP/Vista.
So this hold true for everytrhing we do in life, specially in our Career or Professional Life.
Learning is the First Step towards whatever we want, whatever……….

Thank you patric for sharing your experiences with us. The part about re reading a book is quite true. I for one can never finish what I start. I am all hot and sweaty to get started and right after going it , I lose interest. Even online business. I am eager to start but I just sit there biting my nails and then I close off the page and get up.
I don\’t know how God conscious you are, but let me remind you that all that you have achieved is not of your own doing, but by the Grace and Mercy and Kindness of the Almighty Creator upon you that YOU are achieving your goals. I would not say successful, because one can have success without having money.
Thank you for this opportunity and God Bless.

    Hey Patric,
Your article reminded me of the saying that goes something like this you get to earn more when you learn more. I could be wrong but thats how I remember it. Its funny in a amusing way that you wrote this article. Just Yesterday and this past week I was thinking about the word desire how everything starts from there. The desire to achieve, the desire to be and so on what ever the desire it all starts from there. Thanks so much for this article I will keep referring to the wonderful piece of work that you have done. Thanks so much.

  13. admin September 7, 2008 at 2:01 pm #

    Hi Ooi,

Thanks for your comment. It really depends on how you consider ‘rich’ as rich. Also, Skyquest have many founders. If it’s Richard Tan, then please send my regards to him and tell him that he’s richer. :-)

    Take care,
