Once in a while, life throws a huge rock in your path that blocks you from going forward.
When that happened, what do you do? You have a few choices here.
1. You can sit on your butt until something miraculously happens to make the rock disappear. Or you can use any sort of new-age self help techniques to make it explode into pieces with your mind power, which I’ve never seen any attempt of this successful before.
2. You can use brute force to move the rock until you sweat till the last drop.
3. Call for help!
Option #1 never happens. That leaves you with Options #2 and #3.
Let’s examine them one at a time.
Using brute force to remove the rock from your path is workable, provided you are equipped with brute strength and a lot of persistence.
You see, the rock here is just a metaphor for the many obstacles we encounter in life. But imagine if it really is a big rock. Can brute strength remove it?
Well, unless your last name is Schwarzenegger, or you spend a lot of time at the gym working out, there is a very limited chance of you removing the rock with nothing but your bare hands without the risk of injury.
Of course, some of you may argue that if you have persistence and with time, you might be able to do it. Sure, but stop and think. Are you solving the problem the BEST WAY possible here?
Which leads us to Option #3 – call for help.
Many hands make light work, so the saying goes. If you can get 5 people to push to rock, you’re now using just 25% of your strength.
Asking for help is NOT wrong. Neither does it show your weakness.
That’s a form of LEVERAGE.
Leverage is easier spoken than executed. I would say that most people in the self-help market knows about leverage but really, how many are actually using it to get what they want in life?
Like, your skill is also another form of leverage.
Leaders all around the world use a skill to leverage to get what they want– the skill to communicating and convincing others.
The power of words and speech. That will obviously move the rock blocking you because you can leverage on other’s resources, time and effort to solve your problem.
Like some people naturally have the gift of the gab. They just talk and talk. But listen closely. What are they saying? Do you get their message? How is that message being delivered? Is it clear or do you have to sieve through a bunch of other gibberish before you finally understand them?
Vice versa, you will find those whom we call “Man of few words”, but when these people do speak, people listen to them. Their messages are profound, yet they don’t need half an hour to deliver them.
Power communication lies somewhere between those two. You don’t want to be so quiet and give mono-syllabalic answers to every question thrown at you. Yet, you also don’t want to be someone who talks non stop that other people don’t get the chance to get a word in edgewise.
Basically, it means having the ability to clearly get your message across to your listeners with the use of as little words as possible, yet still be able to deliver the maximum impact convincingly.
I want you to be aware that this post is not about communication skill or teaching how to talk. I dropped a few tips to expand the point but not to stress on it. If you want to learn those, pick up some nice books from Amazon.com. This is about understanding leverages and applying them into your life as soon as possible.
There are many more forms of leverages you can use to help you overcome your obstacles and different ones apply to different situations. Like, communication will be your External Leverage. I’ve shared what are the 7 leverages you can use in your life to get what you want in the You Chan Do It Success Outcome System. Cool part is, it’s a 2-hour video course and I’ve made it 100% free.
Conclusion? Choose the right one and you will see that you will be able to more easily achieve your goals. Otherwise, you’ll be still pushing that big rock in front of you. That’s not very smart, buddy.
