In December, I’ll be staying at home. No travels– for business or fun. And I’m looking forward to that because Emily and I are moving to a new place to stay!
But the condo is not 100% renovated yet.
Last week, the worker was fixing the shower pipe in the bathroom and he turned off the main water valve. The reason he did that is to avoid anyone using the shower because it’ll require 3 hours for the shower pipe to ‘stick’. If water starts flowing through it, the pipe might leak and all work will be wasted.
But here’s the thing– he left after his work was done but didn’t turn back on the water valve on the next day. So we’re ‘stuck’ without water in the condo.
I tried to turn back the valve but it’s useless because it’s so tight! My guess was he used a spanner that time. It was hopeless.
So Emily called him up to come over to turn it on with his spanner because we don’t have any. And he replied on the phone, “I didn’t use any spanner. Any adult man can turn it on if he applied some extra strength to it.”
I couldn’t believe it. So I tried to turn on the valve again but this time, I believe that I’ll be able to turn it on. And you know the result– the water valve was turned on.
The difference?
The first time I did it without believing that I can.
The second time I did it with the expectation that it’ll be turned on.
Because I believe I can, then I CAN.
Isn’t that what happen to our life most of the time?
There are people who want salary raise but don’t believe that they deserve it so they never got it.
There are people who want to start a business but don’t believe they have the capability so they failed.
Isn’t that interesting?

Patrck;
Great story and very toughtfull of you to share it with us a good reminder to watdh our thinking at all time
Thank
Jerry V
Patric, I think you have hit on it. I am believing more and more that we can do what we set our minds to do. I have been trying for years and still have now acheived the success I ahd hoped for, but something inside me says, “Keep trying”
Thanks for the encouragement.
Gene
This is a great analogy! Anything is possible to those who believe. It reminded me of the story of the elephant that was chained to a small post and didn’t believe he could be free. Even when he was not chained any longer, the thought of staying in a limited space kept him there – forever bound. Belief is everything!
P.S. I love your enthusiasm and “Chan” do spirit!
WELL SAID, THANKS
Hi Patric,
I do agree with you, and some of your story it’s true and happen in my life as well. Looking back to my self, I need a time management as doing 2 job in one time is kindda hard for me to do.
Good sharing Patric

well said. I love your philosophy. It is entirely up to us to make it but how do you consistently beat failures, defeats and disappointments?
Hi Patric,
I believe in that. And I thinks if we can add “take action” into it. It’ll be a perfect path to success.
Cheers,
Seree W.
Hie Patric! Reading this reminds me, that simple words of encouragement/pointing out the facts can change perspectives so fast.
Guess now you realize how strong your grip is eh. =) Congratulations on shifting in your new condo too Patric!
Hi patric, I totally agree and believe your story, since it has happened to me in the past. However, how can we adapt these believe to our real lives ? You know the mind is a tricky thing, I keep trying everyday, but it would be nice if you give any input on how to apply this to real life.
Thank you.
Patric,
great reminder to all to believe in yourself. This is especially true for those in the selling profession like me, if we do not believe in ourselves, our product, our company and our customers, we are not going to very successful in selling!
Vice verse, once you strongly believed in your ability to sell, then sales just pour in ….
YH
Interesting, Patric, how strong we can be when we believe. Your experience opened your mind to the power. Every time I try something new, I build confidence I can do something else new. Every time we believe in ourselves, we grow. Thanks for the reminder, we Chan Do It! Blessings on your new home
Thank you for the reminder.I had almost forgotten that truly “believing is seeing”.A strong enough belief can cause almost anything to happen, for good or bad.Let’s all believe in the good.
Brian Greene
Thanks Patric
I think not many people recognise something that happen to them. It’s just like how the ‘gravity’ theory being founded.
Before that, everyone see an apple fall to the ground, but only Newton think why the apple fall to the ground and take massive action to discover it. It’s the same concept with Patric story above.
Patric, your story very inspired me. Just to think and believe “I CAN” I want to make it like my habit
Hey Patric,
It happens.
Especially when I try to look for something. When I’m uncertain, it’s less likely that I’ll find it even though it’s just right in front of my eyes.
I agree that a strong belief can do magic, but I keep physcho myself but there is some negative virus in my mind (hehe, I am a IT professional) I believe I need to reinstall my OS in my mind.
I this is the key to building an online business. It seems to take three years for people to achieve some measure of online success and lots of that is a gradual inching forward and realisation that it is possible to achieve your goals.
I think if we believed that success was really possible we would make much faster progress.
Once we make the first sale we know we “Chan Do It”
All The Best Patric
Alex
Yes, great story, simple but true. Seeing is believing & I believe in this sentiment as you have to believe in your minds eye you can achieve anything you want. Thanks for sharing that story, a gentle reminder to us all.
Thanks Patric. You reminded me to believe more in myself and the need for me to move forward faster
Have A Great Day

hi, Iread regularly your articles and your comments and I can tell you that I aprreciate a lot what you do. I have started my own business and I can tell you that it is killing me slowly but surely, I am triying to find all sorts of solution to keep it going and I have some friends who have helped me because they believe in me, everyday i pray , i express gratitude and i help whoever I can without expecting anything in return and still I do not see any improvement in my situatio, i am not going to give up because i really believe in what I do,i do it well and i know that it has to succeed but I am on the verge of falling down and i don’t know anymore what to do but go with the flow and hopefully something will come up and help me to get out of the mess I am in.
Best Regards and may everything you wish and everything you believe in happen to you

Hi !
Thank you for your story.
Your experience is very interesting.
Olivier Huglo
Its my own experience & every word is as TRUE as The SUN & The Earth.I appreciate your approach & the way you explore your everyday experience.
Bon Voyage!!!!

That’s a good story. I happens everyday in our life. The lack of confident and incorrect mindset is among the main cause.
Hi Patric,
Great story! And I think sometimes the opposite is true too (well actually maybe they are very related.) There is a quote I love and use with my clients by the creator of the artificial heart, Robert Jarvik: “Leaders are visionaries with a poorly developed sense of fear and no concept of the odds against them.”
If you don’t know you “can’t” — you will have no concept of failure. And right there is the key. And as another great man once said, “whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, either way you will be right.”
It’s all in which “door” of reality you choose to accept.
Choose the one that takes you beyond what you think might not work!
Make today great, people — it’s all you have. But it’s enough
Hey guys and girls,
Thanks for your comments!
I read every single one of them.
It always excites me to give valuable knowledge each time I read your compliments.

Hi Patric,it was great to read your story knowing that we all get in to situations like that sometimes. This story definitely makes me more determined to stay more positive about everything i do.Thank you very much
What ever the mind can belive,it can achive,i have a similar experience at work.Staffs kept wndering, how a fishfarmer could be so good at plumbing.Hey,i just belived i could do it,and i have been doin it.Ur mails have been inspiring.Thanks.I need a mentor,Will you be my Mentor
You hit the nail on the head with that one, Patrick. For years I didn’t believe in myself. I lacked confidence and was so desperate for love and affection that I married a guy who made me feel special. It ended up being an 11 year trip to hell. He was addicted to drugs, gambling, porn and what not and would beat me at the slightest provocation. It was only when I started believing that I was worth more than he made me feel, did I get the courage to move on with my life. Belief in myself made it all possible.
Hi Chan
This is great. Most of the time this has happened with me. At least you tried first time, whereas i dint try at all thinking i cannot. Then i got up, angry with myself, generating courage, then found it was so simple. Hatts of to you for sharing the belief and reminding us to believe in ourself to achieve what would have been impossible.
Hi Patric, its interesting story, simple but inspiring.Belef is asimple wod and easy to say and utter. But HARD TO PRACTICE AND MAKE A HABIT . We need ‘extra strength’ to acqure it. To see is not enough . To feel and take action is the extra strengt needed .
Hi Razak,
Yes, first you need to be aware of the power of believe. Then to understand it. After that, to apply it into your life although, it can be challenging in the beginning. But isn’t that what we all experience the first time we try to take action on an unknown venture?
You “Chan” Do It!

thank you patric
That’s True,
And we must always believe whatever we are doing, to make it happen.
Truly encouraging
I may sound like a negative person or as my wife keeps telling me she is a realist not negative.
So here’s the point, many times I have believed and tried a mental vision in my head and the result did not happen. So if the expected result mixed with belief does not happen does that mean my belief was not 100 pure maybe 98% and that 2% caused a defeat.
I believe that with the mind all things are possible but my eyes look heavenly when I believe and do not get the expected result.
Perhaps I am doing something wrong or am misunderstanding . could you advise.
Hi Ron,
Did you take action after your mind believe that it is possible for you to attain your realistic goal?
You “Chan” Do It,
